Group raises over $1,000 to help young boy fighting cancer

Bushido Martial Arts held a fundraiser recently for Dylan Auliffe, the young boy from here who is battling a rare form of cancer.

Students and parents of the Bushido Club gathered outside of the Sportsplex for karate games and cake that was donated by Diana Bastien George, designed in the club logo.

Students were asked to take responsibility by saving their change and giving up a few of their own indulgences such as a rented a movie, games, or junk food or perhaps doing some chores to come up with a $10 donation for Auliffe, and in return they would get a chance to fire off water balloons at their instructors and help one of their peers in this difficult time.

They were also told that Sensei, Sharon Champagne LeGrow, would match each of their donations dollar for dollar. The students raised a total of $530 and with a matching contribution by Sensei Sharon, a total of $1,060 was raised for Auliffe.

Champagne LeGrow recently lost her sister to cancer and spent many months traveling back and forth to the hospital, knowing all too well the emotional pain it can put on one’s family.

She said the club really wanted to help another family out even if it was to help pay for the added expenses of traveling or taking time off work, and her students demonstrated a giving spirit and had a great time doing it.
