Group hosting Cycle Challenge

The G2G (Goderich to Guelph) Advisory Committee is hosting a Cycle Challenge on May 10.

The group is inviting everyone to the event on the Kissing Bridge Trailway, which runs  90 kilometres between Guelph and Millbank.

There are three ways to participate:

– hike, run or walk the trail, starting in any community;

– bike the trail – bring family members and ride as little or as much of the trail as you like; and

– take the 90km Cycle Challenge; ride from the zero km marker (at the north end of Guelph) and ride to Millbank.

To get a Spring on the Trail (SOTT) 2014 Passport a minimum donation of $20 is suggested. The passport is a show of support to the future of all trails in southwestern Ontairo ( visit www.springonthetrail.ca).

In 1994, a group of volunteers started the huge task of re-purposing the abandoned railroad bed between Goderich and Guelph. This project has been widely accepted and successful at both ends of the rail bed corridor.

Tens of thousands of people have enjoyed the use of the Kissing Bridge Trailway, the GART trail, Blyth Greenway Trail and the incredible Menesetung Bridge overlooking scenic Lake Huron at Goderich.

For over 20 years, volunteer groups have kept this project moving forward. Most recently, with the installation of the bike friendly stairway at Katherine Street and this month a key Bbridge is being installed at Millbank.

This will open up the existing trailway and connect the communities in Perth County with those in Huron, Waterloo and Wellington Counties.

Over the course of the next few months, the full completion plan will be executed and will open up the entire 127km of converted Rail Trail for public use.
