Grey Wellington Theatre Guild to present Remain Calm
HARRISTON – This year’s Grey Wellington Theatre Guild (GWTG) Summer Youth Theatre production is set to perform Remain Calm July 24 to 26.
Remain Calm tells the story of a summer camp excursion gone awry as a group of earthlings land on the moon - where, as luck would have it, a group of aliens from the planet Frixle have also been stranded during a field trip misadventure.
Can the two groups coexist and work together to get home? Or will chaos inevitably ensue?
“Our play this year is really out of this world - if you’ll forgive the pun. After more than a decade of summer plays, we’ve shown audiences plays set in distant kingdoms, frightening forests and frozen parks, now, we’re headed to space. It’s a whole new frontier for the kids to play in,” said GWTG member Megan Raftis in a news release.
Raftis wrote the script and is a co-directing the production. The 2026 show features 18 actors, between the ages of seven and 16, from Minto, Mount Forest and Listowel areas, with youth participants also working behind the scenes on lighting and tech and stage managing.
“It’s been so much fun this summer, watching youth we’ve known for several summers now grow into bigger roles and different aspects of theatre. We have youth taking part backstage as well as on stage this summer, and every where in between,” Raftis added in the release.
“There’s so much value in the summer youth program. It’s an opportunity for the kids to participate and learn, make friends and have a lot of fun,” said GWTG president Peggy Raftis in the release.
“This year we’ve got a group of experienced, as well as new actors and they’re working hard to put on a great show.”
Remain Calm will be staged July 24 and 25 at 7:30pm and July 26 at 2pm at the Harriston Town Hall Theatre. Tickets are $5 each and available at the door or by emailing gwtg@wightman.ca.
