CENTRE WELLINGTON – Milton town councillor John Challinor II and Centre Wellington Mayor Shawn Watters are continuing in their roles as chair and vice chair of the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) for another term.

The councillors were acclaimed by the conservation authority board at Jan. 23 meeting.

Elections for the positions are held at the first board meeting of each year.

The 26-member board is comprised of representatives appointed by the municipalities within the Grand River watershed.

“We have a great deal of important work ahead of us, and I’m confident in our ability to meet the moment,” said John Challinor II in a news release.

“This board has consistently demonstrated its commitment, its expertise, and its resilience. I look forward to continuing our work together as we navigate this period of change together.”

Challinor II has served part-time as a Milton councillor for 23 years.

He also serves the town as chair of its accessibility advisory committee, and has been Halton’s representative on the GRCA board since 2019.

Watters has been a GRCA board member since 2022, and served on the board from 2007 to 2010.

He was elected mayor of Centre Wellington in 2022, and has served on various local and county councils over the past 25 years.
