Wellington North council has approved a zoning amendment for a gravel pit on Concession 4 North and Sideroad 2 East.

The official plan amendment for the “Stack” gravel pit, owned by Laverne and Erma Weber, was approved by Wellington County council on March 30 and was in front of Wellington North council for a zoning amendment.

There was no discussion from council on the application, but CAO Mike Givens explained the process.

“I’d also add for council’s awareness, a reminder that the township and the applicant [have] entered into a haul route agreement that’s already been endorsed by the applicant,” he said.

“In terms of our process, everything is in order.”

The haul route agreement was approved by council in December 2016.

It required a one-time $10,000 contribution to be used as the operator’s share of haul route upgrades and maintenance, an additional annual contribution of $0.06 per tonne, installation of truck entrance signs at the operator’s expense and compliance with seasonal half-load restrictions.

Council approved the zoning bylaw amendment with councillor Steve McCabe opposed.

With official plan and zoning bylaw amendments in place, the owners can now apply to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry for an aggregate licence.
