A 74-year-old woman has been charged after allegedly driving with her granddaughter in the trunk of the car.

On June 22 at about 8:30pm someone called the Wellington County OPP to report that a woman put a toddler in the trunk of a car and drove off.

Police went to the scene but the woman and vehicle were gone. Later that day the OPP received a tip that helped identify the grandmother and granddaughter.

“The child was returned to her parents without injuries,” police stated in a press release.

An Erin woman, 74, has been charged with failing to ensure a toddler is properly secured. Police are not identifying the woman in order to protect the identity of the victim.

Family and Children’s Services is investigating.
