Grand Valley library receives $11,000 grant

The Grand Valley Public Library will be purchasing a new digital microform reader to improve access to historical and genealogical information at the library thanks to an $11,300 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).

Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones joined OTF representative Winston Uytenbogaart in congratulating the library at the presentation ceremony on Dec. 16.

“I am pleased our library in Grand Valley has received this grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation,” said Jones. “Residents, historians, teachers and students will greatly benefit by having easier access to historical and genealogical information.”

Shann Leighton, CEO of the library, stated, “We will be using this grant to purchase a much needed digital microform reader that will provide access to the rich history of our community.

“The benefits of a universal microform reader include the scanning of microfilm/fiche for printing, emailing or saving of information to a USB or computer.

“We are thankful for the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s commitment to investing in community-based initiatives.”

Officials at the library, which has been a part of the community since 1913, say their vision is to be an “open-minded, culturally-diverse ambassador for library service.”
