Grand Theatre to hold its grand re-opening party this Saturday

A refurbished Grand Theatre will have its grand re-opening this Saturday from 1:30 to 6pm.

The afternoon will feature a lot of what the theatre is known for, with local musicians performing and a number of acting troupes offering skits.

Recreation Director Andy Goldie said Monday those performances will last about 15 minutes each and run throughout the afternoon.

He added that a number of local restaurants will be providing free snacks throughout the event, and everybody is welcome.

The theatre has been closed for much of the summer for major renovations to the building. That included new seats, new lights, new sound, new flooring, and a new interior design.

Among those providing skits for the afternoon are Elora Community Theatre, Centre Wellington Youth Theatre, Vision theatre Productions, Not So Grand Players, and Centre Wellington District High School.

The food will be served starting at 1pm; the music starts at 1:30pm; and the skits will start at 2pm. There is no admission, and organizers simply ask people to come and celebrate

The renovation work was about $600,000 and was made possible by a $280,000 grant from the federal government, and another $150,000 from the province.

There is also a new website for the theatre, at www.fergusgrandtheatre.ca.
