Grand Taste serves up local fare on April 28

The eighth annual Grand Taste event has become a fundraising highlight of the season for the Centre Wellington Rotary Club and a community favourite for foodies.

With more than 15 local restaurants featuring creative dishes, participants get a chance to sample a variety of main course dishes and desserts.

“This is an opportunity to taste food from restaurants  and businesses they’ve never been to before and they’re seeing the best of the best,” said Ian Rice, one of the organizers.

“All the restaurants and chefs are from the Centre Wellington region.”

Returning to the Grand River Raceway, the April 28 event takes place from 12 to 3:30pm.

Participants will be given tickets to visit each individual establishment’s booth and enjoy a sample of a special item, explains Rice.

“We try to avoid duplication in the menus.”

Rice confirmed that samples of beer and wine will also be included, featuring F&M Brewery and Diamond Estates Wines and Spirits Ltd.

The afternoon will also feature live entertainment provided by singer/songwriter Sara Gore-McFadzean.

As a fundraiser, Grand Taste also includes a silent auction with a variety of items available to bid on.

“Our funds will go to support Groves hospital to help purchase emergency equipment,” Rice said.

“We’ve had fabulous sponsorship this year.”

Admission to Grand Taste is $35 in advance and $40 at the door.

“Tickets are limited and we often sell out or close to it,” Rice added.

Tickets are available at Uptown Cafe in Elora or Scotiabank in Fergus, which will match the amount of tickets sold there. Tickets are also available through any Centre Wellington Rotary Club member.
