Good things are brewing in support of Groves Memorial Community Hospital.
On April 5 at the Brew House on the Grand in Fergus, organizers hosted what they hope to be the first of hundreds of tea parties held to raise funds for the hospital’s much needed digital mammography machine.
Organizers of the “Diminishing Tea Party,” a group of five local business owners, banded together to co-host one large tea party consisting of five groups of seven friends.
These initial guests were treated to tea donated by Bentley’s Tea House, goodies provided by Fancy that Cake, tea cups provided by Grand Events and an assortment of China tea pots provided by the organizers.
In return, each of these friends made a $10 donation toward the digital mammography machine, and agreed to host their own tea party within two months time, with one fewer guest than the party they attended.
The hope is that following the kickoff event (seven guests invited by each of the five organizers), there will be 35 women then hosting their own tea party for six friends each.
Then there would be 210 women hosting a tea party for five friends each, and so on.
Officials say that if each of these women follows through with their commitment to host, Groves stands to raise $432,950.
Those people interested in being invited to a tea party, or in more information can contact Lisa Bloor at lisabloor@sympatico.ca or 519-362-4663.
Information booklets containing such resources as “How to host your own tea party”, remittance forms and sample invitations, can be downloaded from the Facebook page at “Groves diminishing tea party,” by emailing Lisa Bloor or by dropping by the Re/Max Office on Tower Street in Fergus.
A “tea party” can be as simple or as fancy as the organizer wishes, and doesn’t have to be tea at all.
Participants are welcome to try a wine and cheese or a dinner party; the focus will be on fundraising and fun.
Any funds raised over and above the cost of the digital mammography machine will go to the Groves Equipment Fund.
