Good Samaritan assaulted

GUELPH – A Guelph man was arrested after a woman police are calling “a good Samaritan” was assaulted in downtown Guelph on June 11.

Police say that at about 3:40pm a man and woman were waiting to cross Macdonell Street.

“The man stepped out in front of traffic, prompting the woman to yell a warning so he didn’t get hit,” police stated in a June 13 press release. “The man approached and struck the woman with his shopping bag and yelled at her so close some of his spittle landed on her face. He was located a short distance away and arrested.”

A 43-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault and breaching a probation order. He is to appear in court on July 25.
