CLIFFORD - Lorne Underwood welcomed 12 teams to the curling bonspiel in support of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank on Saturday, March 7 at the Clifford Arena.

Tom Gibson reigned supreme with team mates Larry Rae and Ken Armstrong to take the trophy. Other teams were led by Brandon Kerr, B.J. Demerling, Nyle Cook, Nathan Versteeg, Brian Molto, Clifford Rotary, Leonard Underwood, Ron McIntosh, Brent Moore, Jeremy Underwood, and Charles Weber.

Ellen Underwood and Marilyn Hohnstein prepared and served the luncheon and were grateful for the donations of dessert.

One of the most interesting events at the bonspiel is the auction. Once teams have chosen their winning meat prizes, there always seems to be a few packages of ham, sausage, and bacon up for grabs. Hearty, good natured bidding brings in a lot more bucks for the Foodgrains Bank and dollars are matched four to one by the Canadian government.

Each year, the Sharing Our Faith quilting group donate a quilt to help raise funds for the Foodgrains bank. This year, Charles Weber purchased the winning ticket for his wife, Ellen.

The Canadian Foodgrains Bank is a partnership of 15 Canadian churches and church-based agencies working togetherin a Christian response to end global Hunger.
