GAGNE, Henri
April 29, 1946 - January 23, 2026
A cherished educator and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on April 29, 1946, in Temiscaming, Quebec, Henri passed away in Fergus, ON at Groves Memorial Community Hospital. Henri received his formal education in Montreal before moving to Waterloo, where he would eventually find his calling as a high school teacher in Erin. Henri’s passion for teaching was evident to all who knew him; he spent his entire career educating and inspiring young minds, and even after retirement, he continued to share his knowledge as a supply teacher within the Upper Grand District School Board. He was the beloved spouse and friend of Janice Gagne for 54 wonderful years. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, welcoming their children Kevin (Shani) and Michelle (Gavin) into the world. Henri’s role as a grandfather to Aedan, Bryanna, and Brayden was one he cherished deeply, and he took every opportunity to be involved in their lives. Henri will be dearly remembered by his sisters Laurette, Lorraine, and Francine, as well as his adoring nieces and nephews, who will miss his spirit. Throughout his life, Henri was an active member of the Optimist Club, where he dedicated many years to volunteering and contributing to the well-being of his community. His love for his family was paralleled only by his commitment to the service of others, and his warm smile was a staple at numerous community events. Those who knew Henri would describe him as loving, kind, and friendly—a man who greeted everyone with an open heart and a willingness to help. His presence was a comfort to those around him, and his influence as an educator extended far beyond the classroom walls. Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Henri’s life will be scheduled at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations in memory of Henri to SickKids Foundation.
