Two former township councillors are seeking re-election to council in the Oct. 27 municipal election.
Former councillor John Matusinec, who lost to councillor Andy Lennox in the 2010 election, has put his name forward on the unofficial list of candidates and is seeking the seat he previously held in Ward 4. He will face off against Steve McCabe who has also put his name forward in the Ward 4 race. Lennox, in his first term in office, is vacating the Ward 4 seat and running in the mayoral race against incumbent Ray Tout.
Another former councillor, Ross Chaulk, has put his name on the list for the Ward 3 seat. Chaulk was defeated in the 2010 election when he ran and lost in a four-way mayoral race that saw Tout elected and then-mayor Mike Broomhead defeated along with election newcomer Janice Lewis. The 2010 mayoral race was close with Tout taking 1,312 votes to Broomhead’s 1,181 and Chaulk’s 1,090. Lewis received 157 votes.
Ward 1 councillor Dan Yake will run against Shawn McLeod, who recently put his name forward in the race.
Incumbent Ward 2 councillor Sherry Burke is seeking re-election to her council seat.
Ward 3 county councillor Gary Williamson and Ward 4 county councillor Lynda White are seeking re-election to their current positions.
