For over 30 years, Jim and Sue Waddington have traced and photographed the sites that inspired the Group of Seven painters.
On May 29 at the Wellington County Museum and Archives, they will present images from their journey of discovery, made more powerful amidst a major exhibit by Connections Fibre Artists celebrating the Group of Seven.
The presentation will compare the photographs they have taken of some of the 320 painting sites they have found with the corresponding artwork. Since the Group of Seven artists did not keep detailed records of where they worked, each painting represents a puzzle to be solved.
The Waddingtons particularly enjoyed searching for the sites. They will discuss how they found the painting sites, including the La Cloche hills of Killarney Provincial Park, Bon Echo Provincial Park, the Georgian Bay islands, as well as the territories of Yukon and Nunavut. Their 30-year quest has resulted in the beautiful book In the Footsteps of the Group of Seven, which details their search for the sites that inspired the iconic masterpieces.
The event will be held May 29 at 7pm, with admission by donation in the exhibit hall at the county museum on Wellington Road 18 between Fergus and Elora. The galleries are open weekdays from 9:30am to 4:30pm and 1 to 5pm Saturdays and Sundays.
