Firefighters respond to garage fire in Holstein, chimney fire near Mount Forest

HOLSTEIN – Firefighters from Mount Forest and Arthur stations responded to a garage fire on Grey Road 109 in Holstein along with Dundalk firefighters on Oct. 20.

Wellington North director of fire services Chris Harrow said firefighters were called around 3:10pm to the fire in a detached garage beside a house.

Harrow said the homeowner had left and there was no one in the garage at the time.

After the fire was suppressed, Harrow said the scene was turned over to Dundalk Fire to complete the full investigation.

Firefighters were on the scene for around two hours and contained the blaze to the inside of the building.

Damage is estimated at around $110,000.

“Good quick work by firefighters knocked down the fire inside the building,” Harrow noted.

No one was injured in the incident.

Wellington North firefighters also responded to a chimney fire at a residence on Concession 8 near Mount Forest around 11am on Oct. 21.

Harrow said the fire was contained to a chimney connected to a wood stove.
