Firefighters respond to apartment fire, warehouse blaze in Mount Forest

MOUNT FOREST – Wellington North firefighters dealt with fires in an apartment building and an industrial warehouse on consecutive nights earlier this week.

Wellington North Fire Services responded to a report of a structure fire in the area of John Street in Mount Forest around 7pm on May 24.

Firefighters arrived on scene of an apartment building with all occupants out of the building.

The family that lived in the apartment unit where the fire started was taken to hospital as a precaution for smoke inhalation. Photos by Curtis Gordon

 

“A quick response from Mount Forest, with help from Arthur and Minto Fire’s Harriston station led to the fire being contained to one apartment unit,” states a May 26 press release from the fire service.

Guelph-Wellington paramedics treated and transported the family of the apartment unit to hospital as a precaution for smoke inhalation. Paramedics also assessed multiple other tenants on the scene.

OPP assisted with closure of John Street. There were approximately 50 firefighters on scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and damages are estimated to be around $50,000.

Warehouse fire

Around 10:30pm on May 25, firefighters responded to a fire at the Waste Management facility on Industrial Drive in Mount Forest.

Upon arrival of firefighters, smoke was showing out a storage warehouse containing garbage.

It’s not yet known what started a May 25 fire at the Waste Management facility on Industrial Drive in Mount Forest.

 

The fire was contained to the contents of the building with little damage to the warehouse.

Wellington North’s Arthur station and Minto Fire’s Harriston station both assisted with the blaze. There were approximately 35 firefighters on scene.

Guelph-Wellington Paramedics and OPP also assisted.

The cause of the fire is unknown and damages are being assessed.
