Fire Services Safety Award

Erika Westcott and East Wellington Community Services have earned this year's fire safety award in Erin.

Lee-Anne Lawrence, of Erin Fire Services, explained this was the third annual award given out to someone in the community who shows commitment and dedication in spreading the word about fire safety.

This year, the department partnered with Enbridge Gas Distribution for a program called Project Zero.

Lawrence described Project Zero as a public education campaign aimed at reducing residential fire deaths and carbon monoxide deaths – to zero.

With that program, the local fire department was provided with 184 alarms to give out to local citizens.

Ryan Ladner said the goal  was to provide these alarms to more vulnerable residents in the community.

“With the help of Erika Westcott, of East Wellington Community Services, over 120 alarms have been distributed since September.”

This year’s award goes to Erika Westcott and East Wellington Community Services.
