Fergus store offering chance to help build another massive puzzle

FERGUS – Kathy Martin works on a giant puzzle at Brighten Up toy store  on the afternoon of Feb. 24.

On the wall behind her is another puzzle she helped create in the Fergus store about four years ago.

“I never thought I’d be doing a puzzle this big,” with “so much detail,” said Martin a customer who has been involved with all three giant puzzles created in the store.

The first, a jungle scene hanging on the ceiling above her head, was created about eight years ago.

Brighten Up employee Eleanor Laugier, who also worked on all three, and said more than 450 people contributed to the first two puzzles.

Contributors are of all ages, Martin said, with “very young ones that do well, [older people], and everyone in between.”

Laugier noted sometimes families come in together to work on the puzzle, sometimes people come in with friends, and sometimes groups come from seniors centres and community centres.

The latest puzzle, Memorable Disney Moments by Ravensburger, has 10 sections with just over 4,000 pieces each – for a total of 40,320 pieces – with each section depicting a different Disney movie scene.

People are welcome to come in and work on the puzzle during regular store hours.
