Fergus-Elora Rotary announces Backyard Reno winners

The Rotary Club of Fergus-Elora held its first Backyard Reno lottery as a fund-raiser for its $100,000 commitment to the Rotary aquatic centre at the Sportsplex in Fergus.

President of the club John Wheatley said, “It was our first year for this fundraising event, and along with income from our monthly Bingos we will be able to meet the first half of our financial commitment for the pool this June.”

Tickets for the draw went on sale in late March, and concluded with sales at the Lions Home and Leisure show last month. The winning tickets were drawn by people in attendance at the show, on the closing evening, May 8.

The grand prize (a gazebo from Windmill Gazebos, or a tool shed from Dixon Lumber, with tools from Lee Valley, or $2,500 cash) was won by Arlene Wright, of Belwood.

The second prize (a Napoleon barbecue from Fergus Fireplace or $1,000 cash) was won by Helen Orok, of Fergus.

In addition, three $500 gift certificates were given away to the winners in the draw:

– Nursery stock from Cedar Springs Nursery, won by Margaret Alliston, of Fergus;

– Landscape Products from Grand River Natural Stone, won by John Wynd, RR5, Guelph; and

– Lawn maintenance from Yard Weasels, won by Amanda Froese, of Cambridge.

“All in all, it was a great springtime event in the community, for the community.  Our club has worked hard to meet its five year commitment of $250,000 to the Groves Community Hospital, and we are thrilled to be able to provide such substantial support to the new Rotary aquatic centre at the Fergus Sportsplex”, said Wheatley.

“Many, many thanks are due to our sponsors for their support of the event, and to the public for their participation in the draw. When we pull together, the whole community benefits.”
