Fergus driver charged after vehicle hits pedestrian, infant in stroller

FERGUS – It appears serious injuries were avoided, but a senior driver has been charged after a vehicle ran into a pedestrian and an infant in a stroller here on Tuesday.

Emergency crews responded to the collision, at a crosswalk on Garafraxa Street West in Fergus, on Nov. 14 at about 2pm.

“It was reported that a pedestrian and an infant were struck while crossing the street by a silver [SUV],” states a Nov. 16 press release from the Wellington County OPP.

“Emergency service responded and treated the pedestrian at the scene; the infant was secured in the turned-over stroller, uninjured.”

A 72-year-old driver from Fergus was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian.
