Fate of dog involved in attack undecided

The board of directors of the Upper Grand Humane Society will decide the fate of a bull mastiff that attacked three volunteers at the shelter here on July 30 at around 4:41pm.

Board chairperson Cathy Slaney said the dog remains in quarantine until this Friday when a decision on whether the dog will be euthanized will be made.

The three volunteers, according to Slaney, were treated and released from Guelph General Hospital shortly after the attack.

The two-year-old female dog had been at the shelter for about three weeks. The attack took place in the fenced area of the shelter.

“This dog never displayed any aggressive tendencies before,” Slaney said, adding, “That happens with these kinds of dogs.”

The Wellington County OPP were called to the scene.

No names have been released in connection with the incident.

Slaney said the three volunteers are recovering from their injuries.
