Family’s $1-million donation to help open Guelph medical suite

GUELPH – The Hunter Family Foundation is donating $1 million to help create a new ultrasound and medical suite at the Guelph campus of Conestoga College.

“As an extension of Guelph General Hospital, the new community-based medical centre will initially house cutting-edge diagnostic technology, including a second MRI machine, significantly improving access to timely imaging and reducing wait times for patients across Guelph-Wellington,” a press release about the donation states.

Foundation CEO Julie Byczynski said the foundation is a step closer to reaching its $10-million fundraising goal.

“The new centre is an extension of Guelph General Hospital, and only possible because donors like the Hunters and many others have come forward to support the start-up construction and equipment costs,” Byczynski said.

The first phase of construction is underway and should be completed this year and opening the next.

Later phases are expected to bring outpatient endoscopy and orthopedic services.

The Hunter family said that, as multi-generational Guelphites (Kelly Hunter is a former nurse practitioner and Scott Hunter is a business owner), they understand firsthand the vital role the hospital has in helping the community.
