MOUNT FOREST – Wellington North Fire Services’ Mount Forest and Arthur stations responded to a report of a house fire on Forest Glen Drive here on Aug. 3.

According to fire services director Chris Harrow, a basement fire in a home on the street “appears to have started with an overheated battery charger.”

Harrow stated in an email the fire did not spread beyond the basement, but smoke and water damaged other parts of the house.

Damage estimates were pending, but Harrow believes the value will be over $100,000.

Nobody was physically harmed in the blaze, but the people living in the home are displaced until repairs can be made.

According to social media posts from a user self-identified as Courtney Alexandra Allen, the family is safe.

“Everyone is okay,” Allen stated in the post. “One cat is seeking vet attention but my family is okay.

“Thank you for your kind words, everyone.”
