Family Day Winter Classic Weekend in Aberfoyle

The Optimist Club of Puslinch is planning the 6th annual Family Day Winter Classic weekend, Feb. 17 to 19.

A press release issued by the club states the weekend starts off with a four on four adult hockey tournament on the rink on Saturday and Sunday.

Teams represent local companies as well as teams from the surrounding area. This is a great way for companies to show their support for their employees and the community, state officials.

Hot food and beverages will be available in the Puslinch Community Centre during the tournament.

Monday is the big day for kids of all ages.

Organizers have many activities planned.

The community centre will be open from 11am on with clowns and face painting, and special entertainment is booked from 11:30am until 12:30pm.

The Optimist Recreation Centre will be open from 11am onwards.

The gym will be available to use for those who wish to play pickup basketball, volleyball, dodge ball or other indoor activities.

These activities will have adult supervision to ensure safe and fair play for all.

On the rink, there will be a variety of activities and games followed by open skating with no sticks in the afternoon.

All the favorites from last year will be back plus a few new activities.

The horse drawn sleighs and the antique Bombardier school bus will give everyone rides throughout the day (depending on weather).

The event includes activity centres in the park to encourage young and old to join in the winter fun: archery, golf, catapult and human bowling.

Check the club’s website for an up-to-date listing of activities and times.

A big fire will keep people warm and the club will have campfire music. A scavenger hunt will round out the afternoon. All events and activities on Monday are free for everyone and youths will receive free hotdogs and hot chocolate at lunch time in the community centre.

Additional hot food will be available for purchase.

Proceeds from the hockey tournament and food sales will help fund the weekend.

Volunteers needed

Organizers are looking for students who require volunteer hours and musicians to perform at the campfire.
