The Wellington County Museum and Archives is set to host “Family Day on Ice.” Highlighting the magic of a traditional Canadian winter, the museum is celebrating all things cold and visitors are invited to bring the family to skate, snowshoe, curl and warm up inside with entertainment, crafts and refreshments.
With “ice” as the theme for Family Day on Feb. 17, when the Winter Olympics will be in full swing, museum officials say it is an excellent opportunity to highlight popular winter activities from the past.
Participants are invited to join in for: skating, snowshoeing, learn to curl program, building forts and castles, snow painting, tobagganning, maple sugar candy making, winter warm ups inside with entertainment, crafts and refreshments.
At 2 and 3:30pm, The Long, Long Journey into Spring will be performed by the To Be Determined Theatre Co. This world premiere show was written for Family Day 2014 by local director and playwright Alexandra Lent.
The archives will be open for the afternoon with a focus on family-friendly genealogy. Visitors can learn how to start building their own family tree.
The museum and archives, located on Wellington Road 18, between Fergus and Elora, and will be open on Family Day from 1 to 5pm.
Admission to the event is $5 per person or $12.50 per family.
