Faith Lutheran collects sweaters for Syrian refugees

Faith Lutheran organizer Joan McBurney has been overwhelmed by the positive response to a sweater appeal.

“Not only have our own members emptied their closets of unused sweaters but Melville  and Belwood United and St. James Anglican have pitched in too.”

Twenty-four boxes, almost 300 sweaters are on their way to Za’atari refugee camp in Jordan to help keep Syrian refugees warm in the coming cold, winter weather.

“Imagine if your home were unsafe due to civil war and you fled to a tent city in another country with only a few personal belongings. That is what Syrian refugees are facing now for a second winter in a row,” says Ingrid Kebbel-Beer Faith’s chairperson.

“A warm sweater is a small welcome relief.”

Canadian Lutheran World Relief  (CLWR)  supported by many Lutheran congregations and their friends and neighbours have collected over 10,000 sweaters nationwide.

Transportation has been provided by Home Hardware.

CLWR, inspired by God’s love for humanity, challenges the causes and responds to the consequences of human suffering and poverty.
