EWFHT continues preparations for opening of new medical centre

The East Wellington Family Health Team (EWFHT) is making progress toward opening a new medical centre in Rockwood, and the team has  fundraising going on to complete the inside of the building.

The team signed one new full time physician in mid-August, Dr. A. Marin, who will be operating out of the new medical centre in Rockwood.

The exterior of the building is nearing completion and the expected opening is to take place in January.

Work is ongoing to complete the inside of the building. The provincial government does not contribute to capital costs, so the team must raise about $450,000 to complete the work to continue to attract new doctors.

The fundraising has begun in earnest and will continue through the end of March. To date, over $25,000  has been raised.

The fundraising will consist mostly of one-to-one requests, but a number of events have been done and more planned.

The team thanked Rockwood firefighters for the donating the proceeds of their Thanksgiving breakfast.

Coming events include a table at the Rockwood Lioness Bazaar and a raffle is being planned. Many Rockwood businesses have agreed to place donations boxes at their counters.

The team and the volunteer fundraising committee thanked the Township of Guelph-Eramosa, Coldpoint Holdings, the Rockwood Lions and Lioness Clubs, Rockwood Volunteer Firefighters, the Royal Bank, CRD Construction, and all individuals, merchants and institutions that are helping make the new medical centre in Rockwood a reality.

“A ‘prescription for a healthy community’ will indeed become a reality with the assistance of so many dedicated community members,” said EWFHT president Erik Stern.
