Estimated $10,000 damage in July 22 fire at Herwynen property

Though there is an estimated $10,000 damage from a fire at the property of Dave Herwynen on July 22, Centre Wellington Fire Chief Brad Patton considered it a happy ending – because firefighters extinguished the blaze quickly.

Patton said firefighters spent four days to put out a fire at the property a few years ago.

He stated the July 22 call came in around 7pm for a fire at 5960 Sixth Line in Centre Wellington.

In addition to Centre Wellington's Fergus and Elora stations responding, firefighters were brought in from Rockwood, Hillsburgh and Erin.

Patton also called in fire chiefs from Rockwood and Erin.

The fire was contained to several piles of stacked lumber and none of the structures on site were affected.

There were no injuries and Patton estimated firefighters returned to their respective stations within an hour and a half.

Officials from Herwynen Sawmill clarified the fire was at the property of Dave Herwynen – located slightly to the north and across road from the sawmill at 5953 Sixth Line.
