Hillsburgh man charged with impaired, dangerous driving

ERIN – A Hillsburgh man is charged with dangerous driving and impaired driving causing death following a two-vehicle crash here on Sunday evening that left an Erin resident dead.

Wellington County OPP officials say emergency crews responded to the scene, on Wellington Road 22 near Trafalgar Road, just outside Hillsburgh, on July 23 at about 6:15pm.

Police say a pickup truck and a hatchback collided and the driver of the truck, “a 31-year-old Erin Township resident, was transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced deceased.

“The driver of the hatchback was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”

The driver of the hatchback, Nicholas McGrath, 25, of Hillsburgh, was charged with dangerous driving causing death, impaired driving causing death, and driving with more than 80mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood in his system and causing death.

He is to appear in Guelph court on Aug. 11.
