Erin Fire Department to hire chief training officer

Council has approved the new position of chief training officer for the Erin Fire Department.

On Jan. 13, after returning from a closed session, council announced the new position.

“There are training officers in place already, but we found  paperwork was not being done adequately, and the training was not organized as well as we’d like it to be,” Mayor Rod Finnie told the Advertiser.

Finnie explained the person filling the new position would set up and organize the department’s training program, and existing officers would carry out the actual training.

This will allow the town to  better coordinate training between the Erin and Hillsburgh stations by establishing similar goals for both locations, the mayor added.

“Soon,” Finnie replied with a laugh when asked about a deadline for the hiring.

Fire Chief Steve Goode will be conducting interviews shortly for the position, which will likely be filled from within the fire department, Finnie said.
