ERIN – Council has approved $5.83 million in spending for two local projects at its July 24 meeting.
Transmission main
The current drinking water supply for the Erin drinking water system is sourced from groundwater, and supplied through two municipal wells, well E7 and E8.
A new well, E9, was drilled to address water supply and storage requirements to meet existing water demands and future growth projections in the town.
In April of this year, Council approved the award of a construction contract to operationalize well E9.
The work includes the construction of a well house and mechanical equipment.
The project has already begun.
The next phase of work required to bring the well online includes the installation of a new transmission watermain and replacement of the existing watermain connecting well E9 to the town’s water distribution system.
A total of eight contractors submitted bids for the work, with the winning bid coming from Ground Breakers Contracting at $3.7 million.
The project is being funded by development charges.
Engineering design services
This project will focus on various areas of need including:
• the replacement of existing aged watermains and services;
• upgrades to the existing storm sewer system;
• building of local wastewater systems to allow connection of existing homes and businesses; and
• road reconstruction and improved active transportation.
The $2.14-million job was awarded to Ainley and Associates.
