Erin awards contracts for winter sand, bridge repair

ERIN – Town council awarded two major contracts at its Sept. 3 meeting, one for winter road maintenance sand and the other for a bridge repair.

James Dick Construction received a three-year contract to supply the town with winter sand, with a total value of $325,886.

The pricing is based on an annual requirement of 7,000 tonnes, with two deliveries of  3,500 tonnes each.

The only other bid was from Mann 2018 Limited for $331, 228.

The operating budget allows up to $180,000 for winter sand, so the current bids of just over $100,000 per year fall well below that.

Also, the town received seven bids ranging from $258,622 to $384,375 for the rehabilitation of bridge structure 2051, located on the 8th Line east of Hillsburgh.

Owen King Limited had the low bid, which was $42,398 lower than the next lowest bid, and was awarded the contract.

The extent of work needed in 2020 is not known, since the bridge was widened several years ago. The condition of the older centre section will not be known until it is exposed. Contingency funds will be used if necessary.
