Engine failure forces emergency landing in field outside Fergus

Transport Canada gathering information about incident

CENTRE WELLINGTON – A pilot was forced to make an emergency landing in a field along Beatty Line outside of Fergus on Tuesday after the plane's engine malfunctioned.

Wellington OPP stated in a news release two people were transported to hospital after the landing between Sideroads 5 and 10 on May 26.

Transport Canada spokesperson Liam MacDonald confirmed the department is gathering information about the incident, but has not deployed investigators.

MacDonald stated in an email that a "small aircraft was on a local flight with two people on board ... at approximately 5:15pm, it experienced an engine failure and was forced to land in a field."

No additional information was provided.
