Holiday shop - The Green Gryphons and the community at Elora Public School carried on with tradition by hosting the fourth annual Green Gryphon Holiday Gift Shop.

In the three weeks leading up to Christmas, students collected hundreds of gently used items that could be resold at their shop. Students advertised with announcements, posters and some window displays in the front foyer.

During the two-day event, students from junior kindergarten to Grade 8 brought toonies to do gift shopping for their family. Grade 5/6 students helped younger students by acting as personal shopping assistants. Once gifts were chosen, teams wrapped and labelled gifts, using newspaper and donated used gift bags. Shoppers left knowing they helped the environment by purchasing reused items and the money spent was going to a good cause.

This year, the money will go towards purchasing a water filling station at a local Elora park. A plaque will recognize the work of Elora Public School. A cheque was also written for the Centre Wellington Food Bank. The store collected a total of $2,180.

“Special thanks to all the community members who dropped off items for the shop,” officials state. Elora Public School is a gold level Eco School because of its environmental initiatives.
