Elora Skatepark set to officially open

ELORA – Skate, bike or scooter over to the official ribbon cutting for the new Elora skatepark on Oct. 5 at 10:30am at the Elora Community Centre.

The event will feature live demonstrations, music, snacks and prizes.

“We are ecstatic that the new skatepark in Elora is officially set to open” said Mathieu Alain, project manager.

“Our consultation with the community led to a skatepark [that] residents of all ages can enjoy.

“Skateboarders, BMX and scooter enthusiasts will appreciate the unique characteristics, such as the ‘Tooth of Time’ pump roller, the flat ledges and bowls built to create an awesome space for the youth in CW to engage and create memories.”

CW Skatepark Association founder Staci Barron said the association “was driven by a desire to create a safe, zero-fee based activity for all ages in the community.

“We have members young and old who have contributed to the realization of this goal and we’re so proud of everyone who became involved.

“The project process taught our youth what community engagement and advocacy looks like and how determination pays off.”

Though the township was responsible for procuring and managing the skatepark design and construction, the skatepark association was instrumental in fundraising efforts.

In addition to the fundraising dollars, council approved the allocation of $203,296 from MacDonald Trust Funds for the design and construction, as requested by the skatepark association.

The Elora Skatepark was also an approved project in the 2018 capital budget.

The township awarded the project to Newline Skateparks, a well-established skatepark design and construction company.
