Elora hosting summer send-off

ELORA –  A stunt performer will rappel down the Elora Mill Hotel and Spa later this month as part of a unique night of entertainment and shopping to help families bid summer a final farewell.

Steal a Late Night on Sept. 28 will feature a rapeller dressed as a burglar who will rappel from the roof of the refurbished 1832 mill every half hour from 7 to 9pm.

One Axe Pursuits is organizing the burglar rappel as a way to help families close out summer.

“It’s the first time we’ve ever had someone rappel down the mill so it should be quite a spectacle,” said Christa Niravong of One Axe Pursuits.

“The whole night will be a lot of fun and should help visitors really get involved with the event.”

Downtown Elora has kept its doors open late on the last Saturday night of the month through the summer, offering shoppers special deals and in-house promotions, as well as food events, musical performances and entertainment.

The rappelling event on Sept. 28 will mark the end of the summer promotion.

In addition to the rappelling demonstration, shoppers who grab selfies with the burglar as he sneaks around downtown can earn a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to Elora Mill by tagging #elorabia and #oneaxepursuits in their photos and are encouraged to wear striped shirts.

While the event will help put summer to bed, it’s also a lead-in to a month-long festival that takes over the streets of Elora each fall.

Elora celebrates Monster Month throughout October, scaring up 31 days of activities and events leading up to Halloween. Highlights include ghost walks, workshops on building monsters, pumpkin carving, historical tours and a parade along Elora’s main street.
