Elora Festival Singers to perform at Carnegie Hall
The Elora Festival Singers have been asked to perform at New York’s legendary Carnegie Hall on March 13 as part of the a capella Next! concert series.
Invited by Distinguished Concerts International from New York, the Elora Festival Singers will soon take to the stage at Carnegie Hall’s Weil Recital Hall. Named after the famous German composer Kurt Weil, the intimate 268-seat recital hall will host a New York audience to hear the sounds of the Grammy- and Juno-nominated Elora group.
The program includes choral works by Eric Whitacre, Stephen Chatman, Heally Willan and a piece by Canadian composer, Timothy Corlis, commissioned for the event.
Local patrons in Waterloo-Wellington will be treated to a special sneak preview on March 8 at St. John’s Church in Elora.
Founded in 1980 by Noel Edison, the Elora Festival Singers is an all-professional Grammy and Juno-nominated chamber choir.
Since 1997, the choir has been the core of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and the Toronto Mendelssohn Singers, and is the choral ensemble-in-residence of the Elora Festival each summer.
Orillia show
The Elora Festival Singers will also perform at the Orillia Opera House on March 1 at 3pm with a varied program of capella and accompanied choral music, ranging from classical to modern.
The program includes works by Timothy Corlis, Eric Whitacre, Vytautas Miškinis and Aaron Copland - conducted by Noel Edison with accompaniment by James Bourne.
