Church of St. John the Evangelist in Elora is holding a service dedicated to nurses and health professionals on July 15.

The Florence Nightingale Community Service Award will be given out to Sharon Rice for her outstanding service to the community. Rice is involved with a number of community organizations, such as the Elora Festival and Children’s Wish Foundation.

The service, which coincides with the Elora Festival, includes guest speaker Judy Maddren.

Maddren, a humanitarian, entrepreneur and former host of CBC Radio’s World Report.

The St. John’s church has a connection to the health profession through Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. It is suggested that Nightingale donated two silver chalices to the church in memory of John Smithurst, minister in 1850s.
