Elora arts centre wins $500 Acorn award

ELORA - Elora Centre for the Arts won the $500 Acorn award on Jan. 28.

The Acorn prize, offered through the Oak Tree project, will award a different charitable agency from Guelph/Wellington $500 each month from January to May 2019.

Elora Centre for the Arts was the January winner with 1,350 votes.

The other organizations in the running for the grant were Guelph Public Library, Ed Video Media Arts Centre, Community Living Guelph-Wellington and Sunrise Theraputic Riding and Learning Centre.

On the Elora Centre for the Art’s Facebook page, the organization thanked members of the community for voting for them.

“We are so humbled and jumping for joy,” read the organization’s post.

According to the post, a total of 2,794 people across Guelph and Welling ton County cast their votes.

Every week the Elora Centre for the Arts offers art and music programs to adults with developmental disabilities.

The organization will use the $500 grant to expand the programs.

Voting will be active each month until May from the second Monday at 8am to the third Friday at 8pm.

Background

From the total charities that submitted their application in December, five applications are randomly chosen for each month’s $500 prize.

The charities that didn’t win will go into the running for the next month.
