Several candidates here have announced their intention to run in the municipal election on Oct. 27.

Mayor Chris White filed his intention to seek re-election to the township’s top political post on Jan. 2. As of press time, he was the only mayoral candidate to file.

Ward 1

Councillor David Wolk announced on Monday night that while he has yet to file, he intends to run for re-election in Ward 1. He was acclaimed to that seat in the 2010 election.

Ward 2

Councillor Corey Woods will run again in Ward 2. He handily defeated two other candidates to win the seat in 2010.

Ward 3

Steven Liebig filed on Jan. 10 to run in Ward 3 for the seat currently held by councillor Doug Breen, who announced on Monday night he will not be seeking re-election to Guelph-Eramosa council, but instead “move up a rung” and run for the county council Ward 8 seat.

Liebig ran for Ward 4 representation in the 2006 and 2010 elections, both times losing close races to current Ward 4 councillor John Scott.

Ward 4

Scott refused to announce his intentions at the Jan. 13 council meeting, and later told the Advertiser by phone he is undecided on whether he will run for re-election.

County council

At the upper tier, incumbent county councillor Don McKay has filed to run again in Ward 7, which includes Guelph-Eramosa’s Ward 1 and all of Puslinch Township (nominations for the Ward 7 seat are filed in Puslinch).

As of Jan. 15 no one had officially filed to run in Wellington County Ward 8, which includes Guelph-Eramosa Wards 2, 3 and 4, and is currently held by Gord Tosh. But Breen has announced his intention to run for that post.
