Dunsmore raises $26,000 for mental health project

ELORA – Centre Wellington councillor Neil Dunsmore raised more than his goal of $25,000 in his Steps to Stop the Silence walk earlier this year.

Dunsmore announced  on Dec. 20 that his fundraising walk from Elora to Ottawa in September raised $26,485.

“We did it!” Dunsmore announced on Facebook.

“I want to take a moment to thank all of you for your support and generosity especially during these difficult COVID times.

“Steps to Stop the Silence has officially passed its goal of $25,000.”

The walk was to raise funds and to draw awareness of mental illness and suicide prevention initiatives.

Dunsmore told the Advertiser in September that it’s a cause that’s near and dear to his heart.

“I have one last request for all of you. Please reach out to anyone you haven’t seen for a while and are concerned about this Christmas,” he stated.

“Finally, if you are struggling please … reach out. You are important and you do matter. Locally the number is 1-844-437-3247.”
