Dunfield Theatre Cambridge launches second season with British band tribute

The Dunfield Theatre Cambridge is celebrating the magic of the ‘60s and the music that changed the world in Twist and Shout: The British Invasion.

The tribute show is on stage now through March 30.

In the tradition of such runaway hits like Big Band Legends, Country Legends and Legends of Rock and Roll comes a revival of the most popular production in Drayton Entertainment history.

Twist and Shout: The British Invasion will have theatregoers bopping in their seats and singing their way out of the theatre, officials say.

Conceived, written and directed by Drayton Entertainment artistic director Alex Mustakas, Twist and Shout: The British Invasion is a dynamic production that harkens back to a simpler time when four dreamy-eyed lads on the other side of the pond took the world by storm with their boyish charms and resounding musical gifts.

“The British music that took North America by storm after The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show continues to inspire generations today,” says Mustakas.

Twist and Shout: The British Invasion takes theatregoers on an exciting musical journey back to when families gathered together around the television set to watch the hottest acts of the day perform on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Echoing the technology and the media of the time, the Dunfield Theatre Cambridge is transformed into an historic sound stage by incorporating retro-style equipment and some advertising from the bygone era that officials say could have been created by Mad Men’s Sterling Cooper agency.

Featuring 64 songs by The Beatles, Gerry and The Pacemakers, The Hollies, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Searchers, Herman’s Hermits, and many more, this lighthearted musical tribute captures the spirit of ‘60s in a piece of nostalgia.

Mustakas has assembled a talented 13-member ensemble to breathe new life into the golden age of music, and integrates all elements of music, dance, and performance to create a theatrical experience.

The production is anchored by a group of performers. Each cast member brings unique vocal talent and energy to the production, and they each have individual moments to shine.
