Drug drop off delivers

Local police officials participated in the annual Prescription Drug Drop Off Day on May 9, at the Centre Wellington OPP operations centre here.

This public safety initiative, which was spearheaded by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP), aims to encourage residents to dispose of unused and expired medication in a secure and environmentally safe manner.

The total weight of unused medication brought to the Aboyne centre was 4.3kg.

“The Prescription Drug Drop Off Day has created more awareness around this serious issue and we are pleased with the continued support from the community,” said Adrienne Crowder, manager of the Wellington Drug Strategy.

Wellington County OPP Staff Sergeant Vickie Dawson added, “This prevention initiative to reduce the access and the availability of prescription drugs to those that should not have them was once again a success. We thank the community for participating in this event.”

Police would like to remind the public that all pharmacies in Ontario will accept unused prescriptions anytime.
