Driver airlifted with serious injuries after collision

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – Ornge air ambulance transported a seriously injured man to hospital on the afternoon of Dec. 21 following a vehicle collision at Wellington Roads 7 and 51 in Guelph/Eramosa.

The Guelph Fire Department assisted Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service paramedics in extricating the man from a vehicle in a ditch along Wellington Road 7. Paramedics also assessed and treated another driver at the scene.

Ornge was called around 11:40am and a London-based helicopter arrived on scene at 12:20pm, according to Ornge communications director James MacDonald.

The Advertiser observed an Orgne helicopter, which had landed in the parking lot of Wellington County’s central garage, located at 7468 Wellington County Rd. 51, and observed a man being loaded by paramedics into the helicopter at around 12:35pm.

MacDonald stated in an email that critical care paramedics tended to a male in his 50s while on route to Hamilton General Hospital.

He did not have an update on the man’s condition, but Wellington OPP spokersperson Joshua Cunningham stated in an email the man’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Wellington Roads 7 and 51 were closed for about two hours as police investigated the cause of the collision.
