ARTHUR – A woman was seriously injured and her dog is dead after they were hit by a transport truck in downtown Arthur on Thursday.

Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Highway 6 and Frederick Street at about 12pm on April 9.

"It was reported that the tractor-trailer was heading northbound on Highway 6 and attempting to turn right, eastbound onto Frederick Street East, when the pedestrian and their dog was struck," stated a Wellington OPP press release.

"The pedestrian has since been transported by air ambulance to a trauma centre with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The dog was declared deceased."

Police say the woman is 77 years old and lives in Arthur.

A portion of Highway 6 and Frederick Street East were closed for the investigation.

Police announced just before 4pm that the roads were reopened.
