The 16th Line bridge in Minto will remain closed until repairs are completed on a collapsed section of road.
Public works director Brian Hansen on May 20 updated Minto council on the condition of the road, which has been closed since May 14 due to a collapsed section of roadway over a culvert.
“Half the road’s gone now,” Hansen told council, noting work has been done to stabilize the bank under the road.
“It should be stable until it’s done but the road will be permanently closed until that time,” said Hansen, who said work on the bridge, scheduled to be undertaken this summer with the assistance of $647,500 in provincial funding, would get underway in July.
The federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans will not allow the work to proceed until that time, he explained.
“We’re still fighting trying to get in earlier, but I wouldn’t hold my breath,” Hansen stated.
Local traffic is permitted on the 16th Line from Wellington Road 2 (Ski Road) to Holtom Road, and from Baseline Road to Bell’s Road.
