MOUNT FOREST – McFarlane Family Dental of Mount Forest has committed $40,000 to the construction of the new Mount Forest outdoor pool, specifically two lifeguard chairs.

“The Township of Wellington North is deeply grateful for McFarlane Family Dental’s pledge of $40,000 toward the new Mount Forest outdoor pool,” stated councillor Sherry Burke in a press release.

“For the past 46 years, McFarlane Family Dental has been a fixture in and has continually invested in our community.”

Burke added, “As McFarlane Family Dental is set to enter the next chapter of its service to the community in a brand-new facility, to have their support as we embark on a new chapter in aquatics in Mount Forest is very much appreciated.”

Dr. Bob McFarlane said, “Investing in our community has always been at the heart of our practice.

“We are proud to contribute to this project to help strengthen the place we all call home.”

The new Mount Forest outdoor pool will be located on Princess Street, adjacent to the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.

The approximately $5.3 million project has a community fundraising goal of $2.5 million.

Once 80 per cent of the fundraising target has been met, next steps in the construction of the new outdoor pool will begin.

With the pledge from McFarlane Family Dental, a total of $1,136,755 has been pledged or donated to the project to date.

Burke, chair of the Mount Forest aquatics ad-hoc advisory committee, said the group welcomes opportunities to speak to local committee groups, service clubs and businesses about the new outdoor pool, which will be known as the T.D. Smith Aquatic Centre when it opens.
