CWDHS hosting fundraiser for Syrian refugees

Members of the Centre Wellington community are joining together to raise funds for Syrian refugees.

On Nov. 26, Centre Wellington District High School (CWDHS) in Fergus is hosting Supper for Syria.

The fundraiser is a collaboration between CWDHS students, Chef Chris Jess from the Food School, as well as local business owners and members of Project Welcome, a group of Centre Wellington citizens raising funds for Syrian refugee camps.

Jess and a number of his students from the Food School are preparing the meal, and Grade 11 students will help run the event. Local businesses have donated goods and original art for the silent auction table.

Nishin Nathwani, a CWDHS graduate, will also be there to speak to guests. Nathwani spent the last three summers working with the United Nations’ refugee agency, UNHCR.

He’ll be heading overseas to Beirut soon to work with refugees in Lebanon.

All proceeds raised from the dinner will go to the Red Cross’ Syria Emergency Relief Fund. The federal government is matching every dollar donated to the Red Cross fund.
