Centre Wellington District High School’s social justice class is hosting an evening of music and desserts to raise relief funds for those affected by the recent typhoon in the Philippines.
All money raised will go toward the Red Cross’ relief efforts for the victims of Typhoon Hayian. The Canadian government has committed to match all donations made to the Red Cross until Dec. 23.
With a traditional Christmas theme, the event will include the stylings of a few local Centre Wellington musicians, as well as a dessert buffet provided by the class.
A selection of hot beverages will also be on offer. Participants are asked to bring their own mugs.
A selection of silent auction and raffle items, donated by Centre Wellington businesses, will also be available. Santa may even be on hand for pictures.
Other events will be held at the school the week prior to market the event, including the opportunity to purchase a “pie in the face” for selected students and teachers, culminating with the evening event on Dec. 18.
Several of the social justice class students will be “pied” during the lunch hour on Dec. 12 and various teachers and other students reps will be “pied” on Dec. 17.
The Dec. 18 fundraiser will be from 7 to 9pm in the CWDHS cafeteria.
Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door or from any social justice class student. All are welcome to join in the festivities.
